Biomedical Engineering research group has proven experience in technological systems related to human health, like virtual surgery, telemedicine systems using wireless, or biomedical electronic instrumentation (therapeutic instrumentation, diagnostic, electronic prostheses, FES, implantable electronic devices, etc.).

The principal objective of this group is to meet the needs of society in terms of health and
quality of life, by using knowledge in biomedical engineering and virtual reality models that allow progress in the field of not invasive surgery.

Assistant robot for surgical instrumentalist’s functions in the environment of an operating room.

What we offer:
A research group from the Electronics Department of a Spanish university has developed a robot that recognizing words from different people, identify the speaker announcer and executes the necessary movements to gather and to deliver the set of instruments used in a surgical operation. The robot acts as a surgical instrumentalist.

The functioning of the assistant robot for the accomplishment of functions of surgical instrumentalist in the environment of an operating room, is obtained by means of the coordinated performance of the following elements:

- Arm industrial robot finished in a robotic hand, commanded from the Process Unit, with the purpose to gather and deliver in certain coordinates (x, y, z) the set of instruments used in a surgical operation.
- Captator Element of audio signs formed by several microphones with the suitable circuits for the amplification and digitalization of the signals. By means of technologies of speech treatment, it recognizes both the locutor and the pronounced commands.
- Video Signal Digitalization, formed by several cameras connected to a card of digitalization of images. The suitable algorithms of images processing allow detecting the coordinates of the instrument that the arm robot must gather in every instant.
- System of lighting, controlled by the Process Unit.
- Audio exit, which reproduces the signals generated in a synthesized of voice controlled from the Process Unit.
- Process Unit for the control of the system. It realizes processing of images, recognition of voice, calculation of paths and control of the arm robot.

What we are looking for:
The group is looking for partners for license agreements or commercial agreements with technical assistance. The technical assistance would be provided by the group to the company and it could consist in adapting the electronic development to the company’s requirement.

Embedded electronic system for the supervision of vehicles.

What we offer:
A Spanish research group from the Electronics Department of the Alcala University has developed an open electronic system that allows to establish services of intelligent vehicle for transport using EGNOS tools (geographical positioning system). This model has the capacity of data transmission to long distance (movable telephony) and to short distance (radio frequency).

This open operative system contribute to some services of intelligent vehicles inside transport world. The embedded electronic system is implanted in a vehicle with high computational capability (operative system eCos) and with communications for mobile telephony, communications for short distance and with a system of geographical positioning EGNOS.

This platform presents two services as demostration:
- Detection of speeding vehicles depending on the maximum authorized speed
- Implementation of the idea of " pay as you drive " in order to invoice the vehicle assurance.

As an open system totally programmable, it has several possibilities of transport application. It is a system of low reconfigurable cost based on the application necessities. It is possible to be applied for the detection of robbed vehicles, control of fleets of vehicles, automatic detection of traffic infractions, payment of automobile insurance, automatic payment in tolls and parkings, also with the possibility of use it in the railroad and marine transport.

What we are looking for:
The research group seeks for cooperation agreements with companies from the transport sector, developers of applications within the transport sector, automobile insurances companies, General Directorate of Traffic, etc.

The concrete activity that the company must do as a part of the agreement is the definition of the specifications for the implementation of the solution.

The group is also interested in finding partners for R&D regional or national calls and european projects.

Measurer of parameters of the mains with ZigBee wireless communications

What we offer:
A research group from the Electronics Department of Alcalá University offers an electronics device that allows the measurement of the parameters of the electrical signal (three-phase or single-phase) and its transmission using wireless technologies (ZigBee), conectable to any means of processing or information transmission.

A system of low cost has been designed that allows to the monitoritation of different parameters from the mains (energy, cuts, tips,) and that communicates through the ZigBee technology. The parameters that can be measured include the active energy, reactive and apparent energy; peaks of tensions and/or currents and degradation in the characteristics of the signal.

It is formed by an integrated circuit for the measurement of the parameters of the network, a microcontroller of last generation and a module of communications by ZigBee, conforming a compact hardware system, of low cost and high reliability. The maximum distance of communication is typically of 30 meters, what causes that the device is adapted in industrial surroundings. A practically limitless number of these devices can be controlled from an only central unit: PC, PLC, etc. even allowing the supervision to long distance: Ethernet, GSM/GPRS, UMTS, etc.

The advantages of the system are the saving of costs and the flexibility in their configuration, to not to be necessary a specific connection wiring.

What we are looking for:
The use of this technology is specially interesting in those cases where it is precise the remotely monitorization of an elevated number of points (electrical distribution lines, railroads with electrical traction lines, etc.) when facilitating the creation of communications networks and integrating themselves with information transmission digital systems.

The group is looking for commercial agreements with companies providers of electrical energy and big companies of domotic. In general any kind of companies with a high consumption of electrical energy.
