Surveillance software based on agents system

What we offer:
A surveillance system based on the agent’s theory and multiagents system in the Distributed Artificial Intelligence. The system allows that each data acquisition source could operate independently, but coordinated by a central host. The technology improves the surveillance process, reducing the human attention and introducing automatic alarms.

The characteristics of the system are:
• There is an agent collection, defined each agent by its own abilities: data acquisition, communication, planning and actuation.
• All agents have a surveillance objective. This objective is subdivided in different acquisition tasks. Then, they can be executed parallel on each source . All agents must be able to assign the appropriate tasks depending on the adequacy of each agent to the tasks and the common objective.
• Each agent has a restricted knowledge could be of the environment, the objective of the agents group, the other agents’ intentions in the realization of their own tasks.
• Each agent has the ability for determined tasks, depending on its knowledge, the process capacity and the requirements needed.

Multi-sensor fusion platform for traffic monitoring systems.

What we offer:
A Research Group of a Madrid region University has available sensor fusion technologies for surveillance applications, which are able to integrate and unify the information from different types of sensors and data in context through data fusion and computational intelligence techniques.

Different types of sensors can be available in a wide-area surveillance system: radars, navigation readings from AIS (automatic identification system), ADS equipment in aircraft (automatic dependent surveillance), video cameras, etc. Cooperative systems such as AIS or ADS allow the moving objects to communicate their position and give other relevant data on their location and characteristics to the traffic control centre. These types of sensors offer complementary data which can be fused in order to obtain better information as to what is happening in the airspace, maritime or coastal areas of interest.

What we offer:
The GIAA Group at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain) has developed a voice portal designed to provide municipal information by phone. It includes the modules required to automatically recognize users’ utterances, understand their meaning, decide the following response and generate a speech response. We provide the application software and infrastructures required for its operation 24 hours a day. The system is also easily adaptable to the requirements of each municipality.

Position estimation method in information retrieval systems

What we offer:
A research group have developed a method to estimate the position of a developed resource as web document type, in any query performed by a search engine in information retrieval tools.
This application uses a ranking algorithm, which optimizes our design to reach a good position in information recovery tools.

Another application is to provide, to information recovery tools, the ability to learn how to put in order documents from previous lists already put in order. Thus, an information recovery tool could assign the relevancy degree to each document emulating the underlying behaviour in the example lists. In this line, one possible use is the application in surveillance systems to filter the most valuable resources a priori.

What we are looking for:
A licence agreement with companies that use information retrieval tools to manage their own information is sought.

Evaluation of Security Protocols Implementations

What we offer:
The use of security protocols and architectures arise new problems, as interoperability between the different implementations, or a greater predisposition to suffer attacks that saturate the available computing resources, stand out.

This project puts forward a methodology that allows assessing the level of conformity with the standard of the implementation of a security protocol or architecture and, at the same time, evaluating the performance of said solution. Moreover, the specific goals are: Conformity analysis, Interoperability and Performance. In order to develop the methodology, firstly the identification of parameters that influence on conformity with the standard and performance is carried out.

Identification Technologies

What we offer:
A Madrid region University research group offers solutions in Identity Management for human beings (from Identification Cards to Biometrics).

The Group has proved experience in both national and European projects (e.g. eEpoch, BioSec) and offeres cooperation in R&D task, as well as Testing, Consultancy, Management Assitance, Training, Dissemination and Standardization.

They work intensively in Standardization, holding the Spanish Secretariat for the Biometrics National Body, and taking part in the international meetings of ISO/IEC JTC1 SC37, as well as ISO/IEC JTC1 SC17 WG11.

Automatization techniques for processing biomedical signals using machine learning methods.

What we offer:
The Signal Processing Group (Department of Signal Theory and Communications, University Carlos III, Madrid, Spain) offers the expertise of its members in the automatic processing of biomedical signals. The main advantages in this technology are the decreased cost, the time saved and the increased reliability of the results.

Machine learning methods, in which the group is specialised, allow the processing of data both for regression and detection/classification applications.

In the first case, the goal can be to recover (i.e. estimate) some missing data, filtering or smoothing signals corrupted by noise, the separation of the desired signal or signals from the interfering ones, or the extraction of the relevant information from the observations.

In the second case, the goal can be the detection of strange phenomena or bodies in the signals, or their classification according to some prefixed or learned criterion.

Intelligent monitoring systems based on sensor networks with military, environmental, domotics, security and tracking applications.

What we offer:
Spanish University research group offers the expertise of its members in the development of monitoring systems based on sensor networks. The main advantages of this technology are the decreased cost, the time saved and the increased reliability of the results.

Sensor networks, with which the group has a wide working experience, allow the acquisition of multimedia data using a set of different sensors: acoustic, visual (i.e. video cameras), temperature, humidity, pressure, movement, speed, etc.

Given the flexibility of sensor networks, they have a huge range of applications: military, environmental, domotics, security, tracking and other commercial applications.

The algorithms developed by the members of the group span almost all the aspects of sensor networks, both from a theoretical point of view (design of algorithms for coding, transmission, detection and processing of information) and from a practical point of view (planning and building real sensor networks, integration of heterogeneous sensor networks, and programming application interfaces for gathering, processing and displaying information).

Improved transmission method for OFDM mobile communications (4G)

What we offer:
Carlos III University of Madrid (Madrid Region University) has developed a method that combines Precoding based on MMSE criterion and Waterfilling, which significantly improves the downlink in OFDM mobile communications.
It works with lower signal-to-noise ratios than with other methods, which increases capacity and coverage of each base station and reduces cost of the infrastructure for a required quality.

The proposal involves the combined use of techniques of Precoding based on MMSE (minimum mean square error) criterion, and the use of a Modified Waterfilling technique for the assignment of powers to each transmitted information stream.

The proposed method is intended for the downlink of a terrestrial mobile communications system with UFR, where base stations may use multiple antennas, while user terminals are equipped only with one receiving antenna.

E-commerce application for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

What we offer:
The research group Security in Information and Communications Technologies (SETI) at the University Carlos III of Madrid (a research group from a Madrid Region University) has developed a system that helps a user to buy in a supermarket using a mobile device iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
The system analyses the shopping list and, using selection criteria, it compares prices at different stores. Finally, it reports on the chosen stores, the total amount, and it allows the purchase from the mobile device.
It is noteworthy its practical use due to potential savings and improvements of customer decisions.

From the technical point of view, the system consists of two distinct parts:
1 - A product recovery system implemented in a conventional computer that tracks websites of some supermarkets and gets information of offered products.
2 - An application for the mobile device, which reads the recovery database and allows the user to prepare the shopping list.
The result indicates which products should be bought on each store, provides the route from the current position to these stores and allows performing the purchase from the mobile device.

“Ad hoc” advanced machine learning algorithms for decision making, classification, and estimation

What we offer:
The Information Management and Processing research team of DTSC-UCIIIM, integrated around ten doctors with a large research experience, is ready to design “ad hoc” original and advanced machine learning algorithms for specific applications of decision making, info and event detection, and pattern and data register classification.

At present time, the most powerful learning machines are those based on kernels (Gaussian Processes, Support Vector Machines) and some families of machine ensembles (such as Mixtures of Experts and Boosting ensembles). G2PI has proposed several state-of-the-art new designs of all these kinds, some of them showing record performances; and this research group has an extensive experience in applying them to many problems in different areas (finance, information content management, process automation, personalization schemes, fraud detection, Medicine, etc.).

G2PI has powerful computational resources to face the high computational demands that these processes require.

What we are looking for:
The kind of cooperation we are looking for is that of a company which can define the problem (or set of problems) to be solved, by means of describing it, providing enough data, and actively participating by offering perspectives based on business goals and experience. ADIES: Extracting Drug-Drug Interactions from biomedical texts

What we offer:
ADIES is included within the MultiMedica project (TIN2010-20644-C03-01) and has been developed by the Labda-UC3M group (labda.inf.uc3m.es/multimedica), with the collaboration of the universitis UPM and UAM.

The aim of this project is to define and develop information extraction and retrieval techniques based on texts from the medical domain. This will be carried out following two basic tasks: firstly, processing scientific documents in English about pharmacology, and secondly, processing informative texts about health topics in other languages such as Spanish and Arabic. These information extraction techniques include domain entities recognition, pattern recognition, machine learning for extracting semantic relations, and the integration of lexical resources which are specific within the public health system (UMLS, SNOMED and so on) in order to improve applications. On the other hand, the information extracted from the processing task must be used to enrich the information retrieval tools.

ADIES is a web-based system designed to facilitate multilingual searching in different biomedical collections including MedLine, Harrison corpus, OcuSalud, OtroMedico, etc. Additionally, ADIES integrates an application oriented to pharmacists to extract knowledge about drug-drug interactions (DDI) from scientific publications.

A prototype of ADIES can be tested at http://163.117.129.57:8080/newddiextractorweb. It offers two main functionalities:
• Search documents in several sources such as MedLine, OtroMedico, etc
• Detection of drug names and drug-drug interactions in the texts. Clicking on a drug shows detailed information on the drug.

APEINTA: Aiming for inclusive learning. Using new technologies in and out of the classroom

What we offer:
APEINTA is an educational project that aims for inclusive education for every student of all abilities in and out of the classroom. We propose to use new computer science and electronic technologies in order to avoid learning barriers that we can unfortunately find already in the educational environment.

The APEINTA project has been focused up until now in two main inclusive proposals: One Inside the classroom and the other one Outside the classroom.
1. The Inside the classroom proposal is using two mechanisms in order to eliminate students’ communication barriers. First, the use of Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) provides automatic real-time transcription. And second, a text to speech system (TTS) makes easier the communication with the teacher and other students for people with speech problems.

2. The Outside the classroom proposal provides an accessible Web learning platform with accessible digital resources, so every student can access them in and out of the classroom.

A Living Lab constitutes a research approach for innovation that challenges the whole research and innovation process in real-life conditions by human, social, cultural, organizational and institutional aspects having an impact on sustainable service, business and technology development. In this sense, Living Labs are experimentation and validation environments characterized by the early involvement of user communities, closely working together with developers and other stakeholders, and driving rapid cycles of ICT-based innovations.
There is a lack of formalized methods for implementing and evaluating Living Labs regarding how Living labs act as innovation environments and what is the impact of such Living labs in creating value for users, stakeholders in the setting where they are established.
This methodological framework contributes to the determination of the following issues:
• Determine and disseminate the efficient practices for creating and implementing Living Labs.
• Determine and assess the relative progress and impacts of living labs and understand the determining factors and processes.

Automatic Deployment of Secure Applications in Wireless Sensors Networks (WSN) using Model Driven Architecture (MDA) standard.

What we offer:
A Spanish research group has delevoped a platform to automatically create and deploy secure applications for wireless sensors networks (WSN) using Model Driven Architecture-MDA (Automatic Deployment of Secure Applications-ADSA) standard to develop these applications intuitively by using a Graphical User Interface (GUI), and by including new and existing components for WSN, such as secure communications, ciphering, etc.

The development of the proposed framework has been inspired by the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) standard. Integration, open (standard based), components reusability, portability and model-driven development are basic principles of Model Driven Architecture (MDA) for easing the building of complex and large systems.

In particular, the proposed framework has the following properties:

• High abstraction level for writing applications. Programmers should not be worried about hardware and software details. Graphical building of applications is desirable in order to ease the programming.
• Specification of user requirements in different abstraction levels such as hardware (where the application will be installed), underlying operating system and application requirements itself.
• Component-based development. Since TinyOS is written in nesC, the minimum pieces for constructing applications are the components.
• Code generation and deployment of applications over the previously specified platform. Once the application has been programmed, it should be compiled and deployed.

A Spanish University has developed a technology to gather several emerging concepts (Semantic Technologies, Business Process Modelling, Cloud Computing) to foster and face up to evolution of new platforms oriented towards interoperability and cost reduction.
This tool allows accessing any application within the platform only using a computer with Internet connection, without installation, and paying only the properties the client is using.

For the development of the proposed project it is necessary the use of an heterogeneous set of technologies that, after its integration, will allow obtaining a complete final and efficient system that fulfills the requirements and expectations generated.
The fundamental features and technologies used in the development of the project are the following ones:

ui-Health: User Interface for Health Frameworks Management

What we offer:
ui-Health is a system for health frameworks management including patients and processes administration, it has been developed by SoftLab group belonging to the Department of Informatics, University Carlos III of Madrid.

ui-Health aims to collaborate with health centers for the automation and digitization of clinical resource. It has been determined that a large proportion of medical services meet common features in the work of its development, such as admission and patient management, follow-up of a specific protocol for each service that consists of different tests, diagnoses and treatments of patients, and a compilation of all information. ui-Health offers a workspace to perform automated common tasks found in medical services.


ui-Health offers four key features in the interface:

• Admission of patients
• Management of clinical service processes treating them as patients on the different tasks
• Integration of service-specific clinical trials
• Information management testing, diagnosis and treatment of patients through clinical digital documents following a standard CDA (Clinical Document Architecture), developed by HL7.

What we are looking for:
The group is looking for license agreement and technical cooperation.
